AND THEN THERE WERE NONE. As of August 11, 2009, Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) has relocated 221 families from Estero de Paco, a 3-km stretch tributary of Pasig River, to Bayanijuan sa Calauan, the official resettlement site of KBPIP. With this, approximately 307 tons of solid waste will never have to go to Estero de Paco and the Pasig River every year. The Metro Manila Development Authority has committed to build an easement along the cleared Apacible area near the Justo Lukban Elementary School (in photo). KBPIP worked with the National Housing Authority, the City of Manila’s Department of Public Services and Urban Settlements Office, Armed Forces of the Philippines GHQ-J7/J3 (Camp Aguinaldo), Philippine Army CMOBn (Fort Bonifacio), Unilever, Nestlé, and barangay officials of Brgy. 671, 673, and 683 to achieve this milestone.
