Municipality of General Nakar gained its life back after strong typhoons in 2004 because of ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. – Sagip Kapamilya.
On its 60th foundation anniversary, General Nakar Mayor Leovegildo Ruzol and Sagip Kapamilya Head Tina Monzon-Palma signed memorandum of agreement for the construction of P4M trading post which will serve as a venue where locals can effectively market their own products and buy their own needs. This Kapamilya Trading Post is also envisioned to sustain various commercial activities in the area that will ultimately spur the economic and social conditions of the families living in the locality.
“Hindi namin sasayangin ang malaking oportunidad na ito at tulong ng ABS-CBN Foundation. Sa loob ng limang taon, palagay ko naman ang mga taga-Nakar ay matututo na at yun ang magiging puhunan namin para ipagpatuloy ito [We assure that ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.’s support will not be in vain. In five years time, I believe Nakar locals have learned and thus, motivates us to continue this,]” says Nakar Mayor Leovegildo Ruzol.
The Kapamilya Trading Post is set to be inaugurated on November 2009 – five years after the Quezon tragedy.
Quezon Governor Raffy Nantes expressed in an interview his gratitude for non-government organizations that aided in Quezon Province. He also added that trading post will be very useful for the farmers and the rest of General Nakar’s inhabitants.
With the support of the local government of Quezon and all stakeholders, the people of General Nakar can now hope for a better life for their children.
